Sisig!

One of the perks of being a Filipino:  SISIG a.k.a Cholesterol Delight!

Sisig is a Kapampangan dish whose main ingredient include different parts of a pig's head (e.g. cheeks, ears, brains).  The cooking process includes three parts: boiling, broiling and frying.  The main ingredient alone is laden with fats and cholesterol.   The last procedure involves adding spices and seasonings such as onions, chillis, calamansi and pepper (plus cooking oil, duh! [read: more grease!]).  Sisig may be served with eggs, mayonnaise or chichron (pork cracklings) (more cholesterol please!) for an added twist.  It is a mainstay in menus of restaurants offering Filipino Food.  It is especially common in gimmik places where beer is abundant. =P

As for me and my friends, we had our fill of this deliciously sinful and artery-clogging dish when we visited a friend in Tarlac today.  We had lunch at a roadside restaurant called Victor's Barbecue and Lechon Manok.  Along with sisig, we had rice, broiled eggplants with fish bagoong and tomatoes, and of course, Coke! The Sisig was heavenly!  The price Cheap!  Just perfect!!!

Other (cheap) places with sisig must-try:
  • KenAfford, Katipunan (with eggs and chicharon!)
  • Sarah's, UP Diliman (the crowd and festive ambiance, 'nuff said)
  • Mang Jimmy's, Balara (with mayonnaise galore!)
